  • 1.  8x8 Issue with VMWare VDI Horizon

    Posted 04-04-2024 21:53

We recently installed 8x8 in an environment that is utilizing VDI with VMWare Horizon on the back end. We have a voice VLAN for the hardware phones and a separate VLAN for the computers that all utilize VDI.

The issue we are having is that the phone handsets work fine while dialing out, but if we load up the 8x8 Work app on their VDI the call either drops from the phone or has choppy call quality. So we have been leaving the app off.

Our call center agents rely on the app though and have been forced to utilize the app and not the phone handsets because of this issue. Only problem is this is not mission critical to our cloud provider and those calls  are very choppy.

What are our options we see now that it states that VMWare Horizon does not seem to be a supported VDI? Only really seeing Citrix here. I see there are some Web RTC redirect that can be scripted to work in VMware Horizon and hook to API call with 8x8.

Need to know what our best route to go is with this. Or any other suggestions we can try. I know there are also call control and audio pathway settings in the 8x8 work app itself perhaps those are not configured correctly? Ultimately this seems like a hairpinning problem and the media stream and the call control are not synching properly and getting interrupted somewhere.

Appreciate any feedback or experience on this we can go by.

I know the support will look into this for you, but I've seen desktop CPU capacity being an issue. Have you tried a more powerful CPU-based computer, and if it makes a difference?
