    Hi, 8x8 Users!

    We are excited to announce that on Tuesday, August 10, from 12pm – 1pm ET we will be hosting our very first "Ask Me Anything" event on the topic 8x8 Voice for Microsoft Teams. This event will take place right here on this discussion thread in our Open Forum, with @Andy Rawll from 8x8's Global Product Marketing Team as our guest subject matter expert. Think of it as a member chat hour where you can submit your questions and get an answer from Andy live! At the time of the event, you will be able to reply to this thread. (There is no dial-in information or webinar link.)

    The solution has two elements. Core connectivity is enabled via Direct Routing, whereby in-bound and outbound dialled calls are routed via 8x8 calling services. This is transparent to the end-user. The Voice for Teams license enables user credentials to be synchronized between Microsoft Active Directory and the 8x8 platform. Licensed users can also be enabled with enhanced services that are activated within the native Teams interface and powered by the 8x8 platform, including eFax, messaging and further capabilities to come.

    Firstly, you need to obtain 8x8 Voice for Teams licenses for all the users that will have access to the service. You then provide 8x8 with your Office 365 details and will then setup the directory synchronization and call routing parameters required for all users to be activated on the service.

    Each user requires the following licenses: 1) Microsoft Teams including 'phone system' license (required to support Direct Routing); 2) 8x8 X Series user license (this can be any category from X1 to X8); 3) 8x8 Voice for Teams license (this is a zero-cost add-on, which is required to activate each X Series user via the Voice for Teams admin portal)

    Call recording (automatic or manual) and media storage are standard capabilities of 8x8 X Series and the associated 8x8 Work user interface. Right now, this option is not available as part of Voice for Teams. However, this is under consideration for a forthcoming product update.

    Yes it does. The current Microsoft APIs support asynchronous presence, which means that the status of Teams-based users can be viewed in real-time from 3rd party applications, like 8x8 Voice for Teams, that have implemented the integration. This capability is valuable for expert consultation and receptionist-driven call handling scenarios.

    No, they are separate entities. When 8x8 Voice for Teams is enabled, it's recommended that Microsoft Teams voicemail is turned-off to ensure that calls route to 8x8 voicemail

    Yes, direct transfer to a call queue or ring group is supported. Note that consultative (warm) transfer is not supported - this is where support of Microsoft Teams presence (status visibility to other 8x8 users/extensions/operators) is valuable.

    Great question. No additional software is required. Users continue to use the standard Microsoft Teams interface. There's no difference in the way that they take or make calls. The 8x8-powered eFax and SMS (North America only) options can be enabled within the same interface, using the 8x8 Voice for Teams app (https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/wa200002665?tab=overview)
